5 Ways to Overcome Creative Block

We've all been there, staring mindlessly at a blank page not knowing what to put on the blank canvas. It's almost as you can't seem to get your mind to spurt out the ideas that you want

This leads you to frustration leading you to a further block of creativity. So instead of  staring at a black canvas and expecting the inspiration to fall into your lap I'm going to give you the 5 tips that help you overcome your creative slump.

  1. Don't Wait for Inspiration Look for it- Too often, we wait for the inspiration to fall into our laps just hope that if we just keep on thinking hard enough the creativity will come. However, this method doesn't work and only will further your frustration and anger. So the best way is to look for the inspiration, watch a video of your favorite artist. Look at different works from different people and model them this will lead you to start formulating ideas of your own and getting you to put something on the paper.
  2. Take a Walk- Studies show that if you can't seem to get any ideas or your creativity going take a walk. Walking is great for you as it forces your body to use a different part of your brain that is linked to being more creative. The research also showed that your walking is just as effective in-doors as it is outdoors. To become more creative and generate more ideas get walking.
  3. Have a conversation with friends- Talking to friends can make you see different perspectives and may give you ideas that otherwise you would of never been able to come up by yourself or see. As with any problem 2 brains is better than one.
  4. Go somewhere else- When you change your environment you change your emotional state. So the best way to get an idea is to go somewhere that inspires your or that puts you in a relaxed state. When you are relaxed it has been proven that your subconscious is still working on the problem, making it easier for you to come up with ideas.
  5. Literally put anything on the paper- Sometimes you just have to put something on the paper. Literally anything will work the reason for this is that it will put you in a state of flow. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to start. Once you start the ideas will start flowing but just in case you get stuck you can use the previous methods mentioned.
Remember creativity isn't  something that is given to you it is a state that you can put yourself in to discover the answers to your problems.
